Hello, dear readers!
I’m so pumped for my September reads. I have the most ARCs I have ever had. I don’t think I requested more than usual, but a lot of the due dates are in September. I read a lot of horror books, and September is basically the dumping ground for horror so readers can get their books out before everyone starts their October spooky season.
So I have 9 September ARCs, all from NetGalley, which is crazy. I’ll let you know which books I’m going to prioritize, even though I want to read them all.
Last month I was able to read 9 out of the 11 books on my TBR list, so I’m going to list 11 again. I have books in horror, fantasy, and mystery.
I am skipping my Monster of the Month this month because of all the ARCs I plan to read. I’ll bounce back next month and still try to read 12 werewolf novels by the end of the year.
I do plan to go to one signing this year with authors from Monstrous Media Publishing. They publish Weird Tales and Creepshow in both book and comic form, so I might get a little bit of both.
ARC Books Listed by Priority
Pictures of You by Josh Malerman is my most anticipated book. Josh Malerman is an author who has surprised me many times. I just put two of his books in my 50 best books I have ever read. His newest book sounds crazy.
It is about a woman who, while on a night out with her boyfriend, wakes up in a bed and room she has never been in. A woman’s voice is heard asking her to be still. She realizes she is trapped as living art inside a frame.
Pictures of You – September 8 by Del Rey
Crone by Keith Rossen is a witchy mystery book that is being called horror noir. It is about a father looking for his missing daughter who finds something much darker.
This is a quote from the blurb that shook me:
“And though none of them dare say the word witch, at least not out loud, something lurks in the woods, bent-backed and black-eyed, clawed and vengeful, looming ever closer. . . .”
That sounds right up my alley.
I have never read Rossen before. I own Coffin Moon, and I have had many people tell me I will love it and his writing style. So Crone will be my first book by him.
Crone – September 22 by Random House
Worry Box by Chris Panatier is a haunted house story. An adopted daughter keeps having intrusive thoughts of violence based on past trauma. The family creates a worry box where she can put those thoughts and hopefully keep them contained.
But the thoughts start playing out from the worry box she thought was safe.
Worry Box – September 22 by Angry Robot
Die Famous by Michael Koryta is about a woman who decides to become a bounty hunter, but there’s a catch: the criminal she is hunting is her son’s father. He is a getaway driver for the notorious Brady Gang.
The novel takes place in the 1930s after the Great Depression. The blurb describes it as The Four Winds meets Bonnie and Clyde.
Die Famous – September 22 by Little, Brown and Company
Nightjars by Michael Wehunt is being blurbed as Memento meets Dracula, so this book already has me interested.
A man starts getting pictures of himself sleeping next to murdered bodies with a person wearing a mask in the background. The pictures go all the way back through his childhood, and he has no recollection of any of it.

The Only Way Out Is Up by Django Wexler is a LitRPG about a man and his robot who have to fight their way out of a junk heap in a tournament for riches.
This just sounds like so much fun. The Only Way Out Is Up will be my first LitRPG read. I hope I enjoy it because then I’ll finally take on Dungeon Crawler Carl.

Trad Wife by Sarah Langan is a horror novel about a journalist doing an expose on a famous trad wife influencer. The journalist stays on Black Swan Farm with the influencer and finds herself losing time, losing hair, and discovering that something much more sinister is going on.
I did read Yesteryear this year, so I’m down for another book about a trad wife influencer.
Trad Wife – September 29 by Atria Books
Traps and Specters by Philip Fracassi is a new short story collection from Shortwave Publishing. I already have this book preordered.
Fracassi wrote my favorite horror book published this year with Sarafina. He is now an autobuy author for me.
The blurb says:
“In these pages you’ll find talking corpses and deadly tombs, misguided exorcists, technology gone wrong, blood-soaked prison riots, and enough vengeful spirits and haunted objects to fill a grave.”
There are 14 short stories included in the collection, and I cannot wait to get into it.
Traps and Specters – September 22 by Shortwave Publishing
Land of Oz, edited by Marie O’Regan and Paul Kane, is an anthology of stories taking place in Oz.
This book has a lot of authors I enjoy and a couple of authors I’ve been wanting to try out. Christina Henry and M.R. Carey are authors I’ve read before and were two of the authors I was most looking forward to. The collection also features Dahlia S. Dawson, Adrian Tchaikovsky, Jonathan Maberry, and Simon R. Green, all authors I’ve been recommended and am curious about.
There’s a lot to explore in the Land of Oz. It should be fun.
Land of Oz – September 1 by Titan

Vengeful by V.E. Schwab is the second book in her Villains trilogy, with the final book, Victorious, coming out in October.
This is a world I described as X-Men meets Flatliners, where people who have a near death experience can develop superpowers. The story has morally grey characters and a great found family.
Vicious ended with some great unresolved issues. I have read Vengeful before, but it has been a while, so I’m looking forward to revisiting it before Victorious comes out.
Wifely Pick
Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins is the second book in The Hunger Games series.
I had such a great time rereading the first book. I got a great response to my review, and my opinion changed quite a bit from the last time I read it.
I have never read Catching Fire, but I have seen the movie and enjoyed it. I’m curious to see how I feel about the book, especially now that I’ve had such a great experience revisiting The Hunger Games.
