October 2024 TBR list: Last month I finished 5 out of 6 books on my TBR, and exchanged one. I’m confident to read 8 books this month to hit my goal of 75 books for the year. I’m going to read a Netgalley re-release by Blake Crouch. I’ll also read a dark mystery and a Romantasy novel featuring dragons. Other books include a folksy Romance and a dark horror. I’m excited for a dark take on the Ninja Turtles. I’ll continue reading Goosebumps original series (which I’m almost finished with).

Forth Wing by Rebecca Yarros is a much-hyped book that falls under Romantasy combining romance and fiction. This book series seems to be a love-it-or-hate-it series from some of my other book bloggers. I like dragons, magic, and romance. I will check this out. Fourth Wing is the first book in the Empyrean series.

The Pumpkin Spice Café by Laurie Gilmore seems like a perfect fall book. This book is a hyped on TikTok book. It was a 99 cents and looked fun.  My wife is going to read this and I always look for books we can both enjoy. The Pumpkin Spice Café is the first book in the Dream Harbor series.

All The Colors of The Dark by Chris Whitaker is a dark mystery about child abduction in 1975. The plot involves a boy who stops a kidnapping of a teenage girl by a large masked man. The boy is injured in the process. When the police arrive at the scene, they see a blood trail but no body. The kidnapper and his van are also missing.  Did the boy get taken or is he in hiding waiting for help? His best friend a girl whose sparks were starting to fly is the only one who cares after the police give up.   I’m a quarter through this book, and it is one of the best books I’ve read. Two years ago I was surprised by Chris Whitaker’s debut novel We Begin at the End. It was in my top five books of 2022, and so far this book is better.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird is an apocalyptic dark Ninja Turtles story.  A lone Ninja Turtle seeks justice for a family he has lost.  I’m a TMNT fan going back 30-plus years. I like that the original creators are back writing a more mature story. The Last Ronin is being adapted to become a live-action movie.

Run by Blake Crouch is a Re-release. Crouch wrote this story in 2011. Since then, he has gained significant popularity with Dark Matter (also an Appletv+ series) and Recursion. The TV series Wayward Pines is also based on his trilogy. Run is a novel that I have not read before and did not know about it so maybe it was a good time for a re-release. Run is a family running for safety after a disease built on rage takes over.

A Drink Before the War by Dennis Lehane is a good seedy Boston Detective novel. I’ve been a Dennis Lehane fan for a while he was my instant buy writer.  I kind of fell off on reading his work. I just had my Father-in-Law read my favorite Lehane Shutter Island, and I was inspired to read more Lehane. A Drink Before the War is the first book in the Kenzie and Gennaro series.

Goosebumps – The Blob That Ate Everyone by R.L. Stine is Goosebumps book 55 in the original series order. The story is about a want-to-be horror writer who writes about a Blob that terrorizes the city and starts to come true. The Blob on the cover kind of looks like Krang from the TMNT.

Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill is about an aging rockstar who collects occult items to sell the image of his occult band. His assistant notices an ad for a ghost and buys one. He thinks it will get him in a few headlines. However, the ghost is real and holds a grudge against the rock star. The ghost wants the rock star dead.  This is a reread for me I’ve been on a Joe Hill kick since rereading NOS4A2 a month ago.
