September 2024 TBR list: Last month I finished all 5 books on my TBR, and added one. I think I have a handle on my new job and can feel confident to read 6 books. I’m going to read some new Netgalley releases, start reading an Alien series thanks to the new Movie Alien: Romulus, and continue reading the Goosebumps original series (which I’m almost finished with).

A Sorceress Comes to Call by T. Kingfisher retells the Brother’s Grimm Goose Girl. A story I have not read and am not familiar with at all. But I am familiar with T. Kingfisher and really liked The Twisted Ones. I have been meaning to read more of her works. A Sorceress Comes to Call is when a wicked sorceress goes after a rich older suitor with her shy daughter and enchanted horse. The sorceress will stop at nothing to get her way only her shy daughter and the suitor’s sister who doesn’t trust the woman but doesn’t know about the powers can stop her. I was happy to get selected by Netgalley and Tor Books to read A Sorceress Comes to Call for free. A Sorceress Comes to Call was published on August 6, 2024.

Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill is about an aging rockstar who collects occult items to sell the image of his occult band. His assistant notices an ad for a ghost and buys one thinking it will get him in a few headlines, but the ghost is real, and has a grudge against the rock star that wants him dead.  This is a reread for me I’ve been on a Joe Hill kick since rereading NOS4A2 last month.

Pay The Piper by George A. Romero and Daniel Kraus is a half-finished novel by George A. Romero and Daniel Kraus has completed about a murderous swamp entity that the locals call The Piper. It is giving me a Swamp Thing Vibe that I’m all about.  I received Pay the Piper from Netgalley and Union Square & Co. for free. Pay the Piper was published on September 3, 2024.

Aliens – Earth Hive by Steve Perry is the first novel after the hit film Aliens where Newt and Hicks-like characters survive (they go by the names Billie and Wilks due to rights issues, but are the same characters) survive and am found in space after an Aliens attack. Wilks is sent to prison as Billie is in an asylum.      

Plum Island by Nelson Demille is a good solid mystery adventure. Plum Island is the first book in the John Corey series. John Corey is like Detective  Bosch the grumpy rule breaker meats Dirk Pitt and his thrill for adventure. This book is a reread for it I rated it three stars but it has stuck with me I got it for my Father-in-law and think he will love it.

 Goosebumps – Don’t Go to Sleep! By R.L. Stine is Goosebumps book 54 in original series order I only have 9 more to go until I’m finished. This story is about a boy who sleeps in the closet even though his family has a guest bedroom. One night the boy decides to sleep in the guest bedroom and the nightmares start that he can’t seem to wake up from.
