September 2023 TBR list: Last month was a success I read all 4 books on my TBR and was able to add 1. I’m going to place 4 books on my TBR this month but plan to read more just like last month. I have 3 advanced reader copies that I can’t wait to share with you from two of my favorite authors Chuck Palanuik, Chuck Wendig, and John Scalzi.

Starter Villain by John Scalzi is going to be a strange science fiction novel you can tell just from the cover. What would you do if you found out your mysterious uncle runs a supervillain business and you just inherited it? You own undersea volcano lair have minions, and smart cats that talk and run the place. Last year I read The Kaiju Preservation Society by John Scalzi and was blown away. It made my top ten books of 2022 and I hope Starter Villain makes it this year. A big thanks to Netgalley and Tor Books for letting me read an advanced reader’s copy. Starter Villain is published on September 19, 2023.

Not Forever, But For Now, by Chuck Palahniuk Is a book I just received a copy of as I was making my TBR but I’m such a fan of his satirical writing that I must fit this book in. Palahniuk books always go to insane places, This is the author behind Fight Club, and it is hard to tell where it is going from the description. This is a novel about a family of professional killers responsible for the most atrocious events in history and the young brothers who are destined to take over. I read a lot of Palahniuk in college and a big fan of the book and film Fight Club he always delivers something truly unique. I received a free copy from Netgalley and Simon and Schuster. Not Forever, But For Now is Published today September 5, 2023.

Black River Orchard by Chuck Wendig is a horror book about seven strange trees that begin bearing magical apples. This is all I need for a Chuck Wendig book, he’s slowly become one of my favorite authors, that always delivers. He has written one of my favorite books in the last ten years with the Wanders. I have not read any truly great horror this year and hope this book is what I need. Thanks to Netgalley and Random House Publishing Group – Ballantine, Del Rey for giving me an advanced reader copy. Black River Orchard will be published on September 26, 2023.

Happy Place by Emily Henry is a romantic comedy that is very different from all my other books on my TBR and I like that. Happy Place is about a woman reeling a breakup with her long-term fiancé, who gets the opportunity to return to her Happy Place a cabin in Maine with her best friends a former roommates from college. Once she gets there she finds her fiancé with the ring back on pretending like nothing happened. She learns this is your average trip but two of her friends and roommates are getting married and since she met her fiancé there and hasn’t told them of the break-up they must pretend to not rule their friend’s wedding. Pretending to be in love again brings a lot of mixed feelings at her happy place. Happy Place was published on April 25, 2023.
